Punch already has a 3-door effect to it because the rear door handles are placed on the C-pillar. The artist has taken advantage of it and rendered the Punch as a two-door convertible SUV. The convertible styling does suit the Punch a lot because of this.

Most of the design elements stay the same as the regular Punch. The only change is that the artist has removed the rear doors, roof and the pillars of the Punch to make it a convertible. The alloy wheels are larger and they are now wrapped in chunky off-road spec tyres. The front is identical to the regular Punch.

Punch is successful in the Indian market (Tata Punch Convertible)

In the first month only, Tata has sold 8,453 units of Punch. This makes the Punch, tenth highest selling car of October 2021. Punch has also helped in making Tata Motors performance strong as the homegrown manufacturer now has registered total sales of 33,926 units in October.  These figures are the highest ever in the history of Tata Motors.

Punch prices and rivals

Tata Punch starts at Rs. 5.49 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 9.09 lakhs ex-showroom. It goes against Mahindra KUV100 NXT and Maruti Suzuki Ignis. It also competes against some variants of Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.

Punch is the safest car in India

Punch is currently the safest car that you can buy in the Indian market. The micro SUV has outperformed Tata Nexon, Altroz and even Mahindra XUV300. It scored a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test. The adult safety rating was 16.45 out of 17 and the child safety rating was 40.89 out of 49. The bodyshell and footwell areas were rated as stable by Global NCAP. Punch is based on the ALFA platform. ALFA stands for Agile Light Flexible Architecture. It is the same platform that is being used on the Altroz premium hatchback.

Variants

Tata is offering the Punch in four variants. There is Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative. You can also get various packs with variants to expand the equipment list. There is Rhythm Pack which is offered with the Pure and Adventure variant. The Accomplished variant gets Dazzle Pack and the Creative variant gets iRA Pack.

Engine and gearbox options

Punch is being offered only with a single petrol engine option. It is a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated unit that we have seen on the Altroz, Tiago and Tigor. Tata says that they have made some changes to the engine so that it feels more responsive. The engine produces 86 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. According to the rumours, Tata Motors is also working on the turbo petrol engine for the Punch. This will be the same turbocharged 1.2-litre engine that we have seen on the Altroz iTurbo.
