Mahindra brand is almost synonymous with the meaty and masculine yet good looking SUV image. Their SUVs have the added charm along with the essence of dominance on the road. When the Scorpio was first launched in the market, no one could have anticipated its popularity across all ages and gender. It quickly became the go-to car and still continues to have its edge in the market. A lot of cars are launched which are potential threats to its market share, however, they soon come to realize that the Scorpio has its own market and is not easy to penetrate.

Customized cars are a niche market and are explored only by true automobile enthusiasts, also a deep pocket is a huge help and pushes to go for them. Mahindra is cognizant to this fact and has opened its doors to customizations to cater to the niche customer base with ease. It offers these services based on the production models and the Thar has been a victim to a lot of popular customizations. Mahindra, soon came to understand that the customizations also have to be offered to their beloved Scorpio, so let’s look into one of the latest additions to this segment.

They’ve unapologetically named it the Mahindra Scorpio Mountaineer, cause the name has to set the tone as to what the expectations should be going forward. It’s quite similar to the facelift getaway pickup truck version of the Scorpio that is yet to be introduced in the Indian market.  The back of the car has been completely chopped off because otherwise, it won’t really look like a pickup truck. It is an extreme step towards the Scorpio as it takes away half of the charm that the original design offers, however, there is a lid given on the pickup bed to cover your luggage and protect it from dust during those long road trips.

The Mahindra Scorpio Mountaineer gets a three pod headlamp and a brand new grille which conveniently replaces the original stock one, giving it a brand new face altogether. The headlamps are also equipped with the halogen projector lamps. The aftermarket steel bumper is integrated with fog lamps and towing rings to give it a more complete look and feel of a pickup truck, and to add to it also gets a hood scoop with a red highlight on it.

Coming toward the rear of the car, you get a chopped door with muscular holders. The red highlights continue all over the body to give it that unique young feel to it. The off-road spec bumper has quad exhaust tips peeping out from under the vehicle and the updated tail lamps complement it beautifully to complete the rugged look of the car.

On either side of the car, there are evident flared wheel arches with bolt-on cladding. To serve the utility of the car in a more complete sense it comes with a shovel mounted on the side of the flatbed, which will actually help you when you’re stuck in touch terrains during your long drives. Manoeuvring through water beds will also be easy with a functional snorkel. The tyres are equipped with deep dish alloy wheels to ease your off-roading tracks.

Changes are not limited to the exterior of the car, the interiors are also covered with the red highlights maintaining the fancy look and feel even for the occupants. It is all over the dashboard, steering wheel and even the gear lever. Even the car seat covers have been revamped and match with the body colour and obviously the red highlights are here too.

The Mahindra Scorpio comes in both 4X2 and 4X4, making it open to both the customer segments. The top-end variant of the Mahindra Scorpio is available with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that can produce 140 Bhp – 320 Nm and the lower variants can produce a maximum of 120 Bhp – 280 Nm. Customers can also buy the DI version which produces 75 Bhp – 200 Nm.
