2023 Toyota Innova Crysta: This is how it will look
A few days ago, a spy shot of a new MPV was leaked online. The design language of the MPV was very similar to the current generation of Innova Crysta. This led many people to believe that Toyota has finally started testing the new generation of Innova Crysta in the foreign markets. Here, we have the rendering of the upcoming 2023 Toyota Innova Crysta that has been done based on the spy shot.
There are newly designed LED tail lamps that are split units. There are new alloy wheels and the rear is designed is also new. We can see the rear wiper with washer, a high mounted brake lamp and a shark-fin antenna.
The glasshouse and the overall silhouette does resemble a lot to the Innova Crysta. The alloy wheels on the other hand were similar to the ones found on some Lexus cars. It is not known which platform is the test mule using. The newer vehicles of Toyota are based on the TNGA-B platform whereas the Innova is based on the IMV platform. IMV is a ladder-frame platform that is also being used on the Toyota Fortuner and the Hilux.
Toyota working on hybrid diesel engines
Last year, there were rumours that Toyota is working on hybrid technology for their diesel engines. There are two diesel engines under their portfolio. There is a 2.4-litre unit and a 2.8-litre unit. The engines are being used in the Innova Crysta, Fortuner and the Hilux. They are known for their low cost of maintenance and reliability.
Usually, hybrid systems are used only on petrol engines. For instance, Toyota is using it on the Camry and Maruti Suzuki is using SHVS mild-hybrid technology on some of their vehicles. Manufacturers use the hybrid tech because petrol engines lack low-end torque where the electric motors can provide an instant boost. This also helps in increasing fuel efficiency.
However, diesel engines are known to produce most of their torque in the lower half of the rev range. So, there is no point in using hybrid technology to provide additional torque in the top-end of the engine. So, there is a possibility that hybrid technology is being used to decrease emissions. The project has been codenamed 188D and it is supposed to be unveiled sometime in 2022.
Upcoming Toyota vehicles in India
Toyota’s first launch in India will be the Hilux pick-up truck. The manufacturer opened the bookings for it on 20th January. They are no longer accepting new bookings for the pick-up truck. Then they will launch the facelifted Glanza in late March. It will basically be a rebadged version of the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Then there will be the facelifted version of the Urban Cruiser that will be based on the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Toyota will also launch a new mid-size SUV that will be their biggest launch of 2022. It has been jointly developed with Maruti Suzuki. Toyota has codenamed it D22 and will launch during the festive season this year.
