2021 Skoda Slavia Sedan: Video by SRK

Skoda has announced that their next product is under INDIA 2.0 strategy will be a mid-size sedan. They are calling it “Slavia”. Skoda already sells a sedan by the same name in the international markets. Skoda has not yet revealed the design of the Slavia. However, here we have a video by SRK Designs, an artist who has imagined how the Slavia might look like.

The video is uploaded on YouTube. The artist starts by taking a picture of Volkswagen Virtus and starts modifying it. The artist has considered the design language that we have seen in sketches of Slavia that were recently released by Skoda. So, we can see some of the design elements from the render make their way to the production-spec Slavia. The artist has only rendered the front of the sedan.

Up-front there are angular headlamps with an L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamp. It also houses a projector unit that will be using LEDs. There is a butterfly grille that we have seen on every Skoda vehicle. The bumper is relatively simple with a slim air dam in the centre and a there are C-shaped fog lamp surrounds.

The alloy wheels are finished in a simple grey colour and gets 5-spokes. There is Skoda badging on the front fender and we can see some strong body lines that give a character to the side profile. LED turn indicators are placed in the wing mirrors. From the sketches, we do know that Skoda will be using a split LED tail lamp. The render here is finished in a nice shade of Blue.

Slavia is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform. It is a heavily localized version of the MQB-A0 platform that various Volkswagen subsidiaries use for their vehicles. Because of this platform, the wheelbase of the Slavia will measure 2,651 mm. It will have a length of 4,541 mm, a height of 1,487 mm and a width of 1,752 mm.

Slavia has been designed to look like a coupe. However, it is important to note that Slavia will not be a notchback, instead, it will have a traditional boot. This is because a notchback design would have increased the production cost and then Skoda would not be able to price the Slavia aggressively.

Speaking of the prices, Slavia will sit above the Skoda Rapid which has now been discontinued. With the recently launched Rapid Matte Edition, the production run of the sedan will stop. It is limited to 400 units only. Slavia will be going against the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Volkswagen will also be launching their version of the sedan, which is expected to be called Virtus.

The 1.0 TSI will get a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox whereas the 1.5 TSI will get a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
